About me

Welcome to Kerrich Counselling. I’m Kerrie Richards, and I’m committed to helping people navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and self-understanding.

I’ve always been intrigued by what makes people tick—why the same life event can affect individuals in such different ways. This curiosity led me to study a Bachelor of Arts (Humanities and Social Sciences) majoring in Psychology at Ballarat University (now Federation University) in the early 1990s. I also completed a double major in Management from the Business School there, and spent years following the management pathway in the corporate sector.

When I started my own family, I sought more balance and transitioned to part-time work locally in the finance sector. Then, like so many, I found myself reflecting deeply when COVID reshaped the world. It became clear to me that I needed to return to my true calling - helping people who are struggling or feeling stuck. I trained as a Lifeline telephone counsellor and went on to complete a Diploma and a Master’s in Holistic Counselling. This journey profoundly transformed the way I approach healing and personal growth.

My Counselling Approach

I believe that our subconscious beliefs - often formed in childhood - shape the way we react to life’s challenges. This is why two people can experience the same event, yet one may be deeply affected while the other moves forward with ease. Understanding these deep-rooted beliefs can help us shift long-standing emotional patterns and create positive change.

I also recognise how generational trauma and inherited beliefs influence our relationships, financial habits, and ways of coping with stress. My love for family history research has reinforced this, and I’ve helped many people trace their family trees and uncover meaningful connections with their ancestors. This inspired me to integrate Family Tree Research Services into my counselling practice—combining my love for genealogy with my commitment to helping people better understand themselves.

Stress Management & Mindfulness Workshops

In addition to one-on-one counselling, I offer stress management workshops for corporate teams, schools, community groups, and sporting organisations. These workshops explore how the mind and body respond to stress and teach practical techniques—such as mindfulness, meditation, and emotional processing—to build resilience and improve mental well-being. As a qualified meditation teacher, I incorporate mindfulness and meditation practices to help individuals manage stress more effectively.
